Religion Curriculum

Religious Education at Immaculate Conception School is an integral part of the growth and development of the total student. All grades use the Alive in Christ religion series by Our Sunday Visitor, approved by the Diocese, as the main textbook. All grades utilize supplementary materials to further enhance the individual’s spiritual formation.

We enrich the spirituality of students in a number of ways. All students and staff share in a weekly celebration of the Holy Sacrifice at the Mass. In addition, each grade attends a second Mass during the week. Students in 3rd through 8th grades participate in the Liturgy of the Mass in a number of ways, including acting as altar servers, gift bearers, ushers, cantors, and lectors. The Seraphim children's choir (grades 3-5) and the junior high choir (grades 6-8) lead the singing at Mass. We are also blessed with visits to our classrooms by our parish priests.

Additional Religious events attended include:
Reconciliation periodically throughout the year
Reciting the Rosary, held weekly in October, ending with a Living Rosary by our Kindergarten and 1st-grade students, with their 8th-grade buddies
Stations of the Cross prayed weekly during Lent
Procession of our IC ‘Saints’ at the All Saints Day Mass
Blessing of throats on the Feast of St. Blaise
Distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday
Celebrating Mass on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet
7th-grade participates in an end of year Retreat; to prepare for their leadership roles in 8th grade
Pass It On Ceremony, students pray for the 8th-grade class as they move on to High School.
8th-grade Graduation Mass
Mass music is provided by our Seraphim and Jubliee Choirs
