Academic Intervention

IC's Academic Intervention Program is a specialized 45-minute class held at minimum twice-weekly during school hours for students in grades 1–4.
It targets students with documented academic disabilities or those identified as "at-risk" through standardized testing data and grades.

The IC Academic Intervention Class provides the following specialized instruction/intervention and support:

Dyslexic Intervention: providing a systematic, multisensory, explicit, Orton-Gillingham method of practice for spelling, reading fluency, comprehension, and writing skills

Academic Intervention: providing systematic, targeted support for students who are identified as “at risk” for grade level standards in Reading or Math, using evidence-based strategies in small group intervention

Academic Team Support: an individualized support system including grade-level teacher(s), academic interventionists, tutors, therapists, parents, and IC Administration that will meet frequently throughout the school year to assess students’ academic progress at school and home, identify targeted areas of concern, and to maintain and insure academic progress, while also nurturing their social, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth

The IC Academic Interventionist is Carol Hardin, who has been teaching at Immaculate Conception Catholic School for 28 years. She graduated from University of Arkansas Little Rock with a BS in Psychology and a Minor in Health Science. She has completed the following training and certification in the following methods to better serve the academic needs of our students.
